14 THINGS NOT TO DO

Help us develop sustainable, intelligent and respectful tourism.

Only in this way can we safeguard the historical, cultural and environmental integrity of Menorca.

These are some rules that we should all follow.

1

ANCHOR ON POSIDONIA

Posidonia is of fundamental environmental importance and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Anchor on Posidonia implies significant economic sanctions.

3

IGNORE PROTECTED AREAS

There are hundreds of areas protected for their vital natural importance, such as dune systems, marine reserves and bird breeding areas.

5

TAKE SAND, STONES OR FOSSILS

Every year tons of sand, stones and fossils are seized at the airport. A terrible environmental impact.

7

TAKE LIVING OR DEAD NACRAS

Even if they are dead, it is totally prohibited and is considered a crime prosecuted by law. If you see a nacra, leave it where it is!

9

BRING HOME THE TURTLES

Menorca is a home to turtles.

There are thousands. They can be found in the countryside, on the roads. Do not touch them. And above all, don't take them!

11

GOING SHIRTLESS OR IN SPEEDOS

In the towns it is prohibited to walk shirtless or in a speedos. This practice can lead to different economic sanctions.

13

STRESS YOURSELF

Menorcans are not slow. It's the tourists who are stressed. Menorca is the island of calm. Live it like the Menorcans: "poc a poc" (little by little).

2

LEAVE YOUR MARK ON THE BEACH

Do you like to go to a clean beach?  Well, when you leave, act as if you were never there. Take everything: garbage, plastic, cigarette butts, food remains with you...

4

MUD OR CLAY BATHS

They do not have any benefits for the skin, they can also cause infections, erode cliffs and cause rock falls.

6

STACKING STONES

A seemingly innocent trend that is actually ruining coastal ecosystems and their fragile landscapes. Native species that nest and grow there are destroyed.

8

GET OFF THE TRAILS

You will surely pass through the Camì de Cavalls or one of the hundreds of trails in Menorca. Going off the trail is bad for the environment.

10

OPEN OR CLOSE THE BARRIERS

The typical and beautiful barriers of Menorca serve to prevent livestock and animals from escaping their habitat. Farmers might be moving their herd.

Open or close, leave them as you find them.

12

WASTING WATER

Menorca's water supply is dependent on groundwater only and the water levels in summer are far below desired in the aquifers.

14

NOT VISITING US

Surely you will come for a walk through the beautiful town of Fornells. Take advantage to come meet and greet us!
